Seniors Programs

We provide opportunities for seniors to make connections, enjoy a healthy meal together, engage in volunteer opportunities, access support, resources and more.

Community Food Bank & Drop-In

Healthy produce, bread and non-perishable food for children, families, seniors and individuals. Along with a monthly food hamper, you can enjoy a healthy meal and social interaction at each drop-in. We invite you to shop in our grocery store style Food Bank to select food items of your choosing. Eligible participants need to be residents of Hope to qualify.

While we are located inside the Northwest Harvest Church at 888 3rd Avenue, we have no affiliation with the Church other than as friends and tenants.

Seniors and those with mobility issues are welcome to shop in a stress-free, senior-friendly manner on the 2nd Monday each month from 10:30 to 12:00 (a meal is NOT provided but refreshments will be available during this drop-in).

Seniors and those with mobility issues are also eligible to have their food hamper delivered monthly by volunteers from the 7th Day Adventist Church.  Please call Hope Community Services at 604-869-2466 to arrange for delivery.

FREE Curbside Market:  On the 2nd Wednesday and the last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each month, you’re invited to shop at our FREE Curbside Market located at the Northwest Harvest Church, 888 3rd Avenue.  Recovered produce and non-perishable food items, along with bread products will be available for your choosing.

Our Community Food Bank & Drop-In programs rely almost entirely on the generous donations of community members, businesses and organizations and a small grant from BC Gaming.  We could not serve the community the way we do without the support of individuals, businesses & organizations like yourselves.  If you would like to help make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children, families, seniors and individuals in our community, visit our donation page today!

Community Programs

We offer a range of services to support members of the community including income tax services for low income individuals, Community Response Network support, specialized one-off services, and more!

Community Gardens

Join a community of neighbours who grow food sustainably and eat healthy. This volunteer-led program allows Hope and area residents with a love of growing plants to grow their own produce, attend meetings, and voice ideas for improving the community gardens.

Under the guidance of the Lead Volunteer Garden Coordinator, Esther Brysch, gardeners plant, care for and harvest a range of vegetables, berries and herbs.  Esther also supports the School Garden Program and oversees the large Community Food Bank garden.

Gardening is beneficial to both our physical and mental well-being and provides a sustainable source of organic, healthy and nutritious food!  Even if you’re new to gardening our Garden Coordinator and Garden Members love to support those new to gardening.

Plot fees:  $30 for outdoor raised or low growing plot

$60 for a 4×4 raised or low growing Greenhouse plot

The Community Gardens are located behind Coquihalla Elementary school on Coquihalla Street.  For more information or to register for a plot, please contact Hope Community Services at 604-869-2466.

If you would like to volunteer to work in the Community Food Bank garden, Coquihalla School Garden or any other garden area, please contact Hope Community Services at 604-869-2466.  Volunteers are always needed and welcomed!

This program is made possible with the support of the District of Hope & School District #78 (land use), the Province of BC and donations from the community members and local businesses.  If you would like to make a donation to support the Community Garden, please visit our donation page today!

Volunteer Income Tax Program

Volunteers trained by Revenue Canada complete basic income tax returns for Hope and area residents who require assistance.

The Volunteer Income Tax Program is available for Seniors and low income earners (single earners up to $18,000 and dual wage earners up to $30,000).

How does it work?
Bring in your tax forms (T5007, T4, T4(A), etc) to the Hope Community Services office at 434 Wallace. A trained volunteer will complete your tax return using the CRA’s e-file program. Depending on the volume of tax returns availability of volunteers, your tax return may be complete within one week. We will call you to come pick up your tax return once it is complete.

This is a free service however donations are greatly appreciated. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our office at (604) 869-2466 for more information.
